Although I truly love Windows 7 (even in beta, I feel like it's more stable than any release of Vista that I've seen), you might be running Vista. If so, you probably want to download Vista SP2 here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/dd262148.aspx. Read the information on Microsoft's site to determine what's new/fixed.

It's old news by now, but as of two days ago (20 May 2009), Microsoft has made the first beta version of VS 2010 available. Visit the MSDN site for more information: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/dd582936.aspx.

According to the media, Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1 should be available today (May 18 2009) for download by MSDN subscribers (http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Application-Development/Microsoft-Set-to-Deliver-Visual-Studio-2010-Beta-1-704461/), and to the general public on May 20. Check it out! VS 2010 promises to include better support for WPF, among many other things!

Glad to see you here. I've been writing and presenting recorded courseware for AppDev since 1999 (I was the "guinea pig" for the technology, recording in an old garage where we had to stop every time a plane flew overhead--about every five minutes--because of the noise. Amazingly, those VB6 videos are still selling! Before that, I was part of a group of excellent AppDev instructors who taught week-long classes on Access and VB since 1993. I don't miss the "talk for five days solid" grind of those instructor-led classes, but I sure do miss the interaction with the students. As you can imagine, recording videos in a sound-proof booth doesn't give you quite the same feedback as speaking in front of a class! You have to anticipate the questions you would have gotten with a live audience, and attempt to answer them without anyone actually asking them.
Now, because of this site, you CAN ask those questions. If you have questions about why we did an example the way we did, or what we meant when we said something particular, you can use the forums here to get an answer. Please understand that we can't duplicate Microsoft's support forums here -- if you have a general question about Microsoft technology, or a question that doesn't directly apply to one of AppDev's courses, we might direct you to the appropriate support venue for an answer. But if you have questions about AppDev, its courses, and the content of those courses, this is the place to be.
We (the authors) don't see much feedback on the courses. If you have comments or suggestions, please make them here. I can't promise we'll act on every suggestion, but we'll certainly take your suggestions into account as we create new course materials. Thanks, in advance!
